I’m so sorry for your loss — I’m owned by three cats and they are all incredibly special, lovely beings and the thought of losing them one day scares me so much. But you’re right, it is important to savor the time spent with them and be glad you crossed paths with them at all. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful tribute.

So sorry for your loss. We lost our cat 5 months ago and went through something similar -- 5 days in the ICU, followed by a year administering subcutaneous fluids and multiple medications daily (shout out to amlodipine). Everyone likely thought we were crazy, but it was 100% the right decision. Our cat, Jessup, didn't go in for butt patts, but he enjoyed, sometimes even demanded, belly rubs. Some cats really are special and worth it if you're able. Layla sounds amazing and you did right by her.

I’m so sorry for your loss. There is no experience quite like holding your beloved cat through their final moments, when the veil between life and death is thin. It was one of the hardest moments of my life, but ultimately, I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. It felt like such an honor to be his final source of comfort. Thank you for capturing that moment with Layla here, although I can’t imagine the pain you must’ve felt writing it. I wept re-experiencing that moment and again felt the enormous gratitude of our cats’ little lives.
