Losing Elections to Spite Your Face
Sidney Powell (Trump's "former" lawyer), and Lin Wood (conservative "celebrity" lawyer based out of Georgia) are currently in the spotlight. They've been spearheading what Powell has dubbed the "Kraken", which are ostensibly blockbuster lawsuits intended to blow open the stolen election scam. I've posted about Powell's capabilities as an attorney and found them to be extremely poor, and potentially an indication of a mental health issue, based on what she has submitted. She has since filed another "Kraken" alongside Wood in Wisconsin, and a federal judge (Obama appointee) has picked apart how faulty it is even on just basic rudimentary procedural standards (see the order here). Perhaps most egregiously, one of the plaintiffs named in the suit, and whom the suit is filed on behalf, claims his name was used without permission. At least one attorney commentator said Powell and Wood got "more things wrong while initiating a case than anyone should be able to possibly manage without making a conscious effort." (emphasis mine)
I bring this up just as a prelude to the developments I mentioned at the beginning because some bizarre shit is going down in Georgia right now. One of the difficult positions the GOP is currently facing with regards to stolen election narrative is that the fate of the Senate is still undecided and relies entirely on what happens in the Georgia runoff Senate election where both seats are up for grabs. Because no candidate got a majority of votes (due to more than 2 candidates on the ballot), it moved to a runoff and both Republican incumbents are facing very stiff opposition from the Democratic challengers. If both Democratic challengers win, the Republicans lose control of the Senate. This would bring about a Biden presidency where Democrats control the White House, the Senate, and the House.
Both the governor and the Secretary of State of Georgia are Republicans and Trump supporters, but they've been accused of being complicit in enabling the "stolen" election conspiracy. Not only that, but the two Republican candidates for Senate wrote an open letter demanding that they both resign due to the number of (unspecified) "irregularities" in the Georgia election. A group associated with long-time Trump devotee Roger Stone urged voters to "punish the GOP" by writing in Trump's name on the runoff ballots (because it's a runoff, there is no write-in option, but that's besides the point). It's legitimately difficult to know who is earnest and who is trolling, because obviously Democrats are more than happy to loudly echo the same call to action. When RNC chair Ronna McDaniel had a meeting in Georgia, she faced an angry crowd asking her why they should bother voting in the runoff when the outcome is already rigged. The best she could say was to focus on January 5th, and to deal with the claims of Presidential election fraud "later".
Yesterday, Wood made the same call to action at a public rally while wearing a MAGA hat, asking the crowd to boycott the supposedly fraudulent upcoming Senate election. Trump is not a complete idiot because he seems to at least be aware of the significant repercussions of losing the upcoming Senate races, so he's taking time to make pit stops in Georgia to support the Republican candidates. Breitbart, meanwhile, is trying to throw Wood under the bus by claiming that he's a long-time Democrat donor.
I don't really know what's going on here. I don't actually believe that Sidney Powell and Lin Wood are confederates working for the DNC, but their behavior lately is extremely suspect. The pitiful and embarrassing lawyering on display combined with the breathtaking self-own of asking Trump supporters to boycott a crucial Senate election is more than a little off-putting. My own position is that their behavior is actually adequately explained by pure incompetence, but those developments really had me wondering.
In parallel news, a Florida attorney is currently under investigation for trying to register to vote in Georgia and appearing on video encouraging other people to do the same in order to try and (illegally) cast a ballot in the Senate races. The lawyer told the reporter he was just joking, but the reporter checked his registration application and found it was indeed filed in Georgia.
