Excellent piece, but there is one important detail people are mistaken about when talking about the Smithsonian's reaction to the pushback they got. They removed the pretty poster, but they actually still do promote the "White Supremacy" ideas in that poster that they claimed they no longer subscribe to. It's just hidden away in a less pretty format. See for yourself, right here: https://nmaahc.si.edu/learn/talking-about-race/resources?search_api_fulltext=tema

Haven't watched yet, about to, but as a guess I wonder if Grim is going for the "let them hang themselves" approach. I also look for some read meat, but if you have enough confidence in your audience they can come away with the understanding that the guest couldn't explain their position.

There is merit to this approach (and Isaac Chotiner is the grandmaster at it) but it doesn't seem plausible in this instance. There was virtually no pushback I could identify, and we instead got a LOT of obfuscation over the core issue. See for yourself on the transcript.

Yeah I've got it on in the background now and like another story I'm looking at today meant to clear up a controversy, softball to the point of not asking the pertinent questions.

Grim is a white male on the left. He's not exactly at liberty to attack "A wOmAn Of CoLoR."

It's really easy to forget! Including just from hearing her voice.

Another thing to consider is the role of class in this. As Sowell also talks about, much of Black American culture came from Scotch-Irish "white trash" culture. All the "authentically Black" stereotypes listed can also apply to poor Appalachian redneck whites.

Reminds me of this classic skit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7VaXlMvAvk
